Men of War II is a real-time strategy game built on an updated version of the GEM RTS engine, Best Way studio’s proprietary engine, developed for large-scale military simulations with combined unit control, physically accurate interactions, and a fully interactive environment.
Men of War II evolves the series’ classic formula, combining realistic modeling of World War II combat scenarios with modern approaches to team-based gameplay. The game offers an unprecedented number of units with various specializations, an expanded control system, and an improved adaptive unit behavior system. Players can employ complex tactical techniques, set ambushes, capture enemy vehicles and weapons, destroy structures, or build their own fortifications, from trenches and dugouts to bunkers and minefields.
The Direct Control system allows you to take personal command of any unit on the battlefield at any moment, ensuring maximum precision of actions and depth of tactical control. The advanced simulation of the battlespace blends the series’ classic mechanics with new capabilities, while improved visual and audio effects create the feeling of being at the very epicenter of events.
A key technological innovation of Men of War II is the meta-layer with deep army customization that forms a system of complementary roles within the team. Players research battalions and assemble their own “decks” of units for each battle, creating an individual style of warfare. Army specialization sets the tempo and character of the battle, encourages team planning, division of responsibilities, and strategic coordination, turning each confrontation into a realistic military operation.
The foundation of the combat system is territorial control. The frontline in Men of War II is not an abstraction; it is a dynamic interface element that clearly shows the boundary between opposing forces. The wider an army’s zone of influence becomes, the faster its victory points grow and the more tactical opportunities open up for the player. In controlled territory, automatic demining and ammunition resupply take place; the fog of war does not hide enemies; it is possible to treat the wounded and build fortifications or engineering structures. At the same time, saboteurs’ camouflage remains only on enemy territory.
Men of War II is primarily focused on the multiplayer experience. Battle formats include modes from 1vs1 to 5vs5 with support for rankings, achievements, and leagues, opening opportunities for esports matches. The game runs on dedicated servers, ensuring stability and the ability to rejoin an active session. The game system is built on a modular principle and includes three formats: battalion, combined arms, and classic, with a reinforcement-calling mechanic familiar from the original Men of War. Additionally, for each session, you can choose a competitive or realistic play style, making every multiplayer confrontation unique in pace and rules.
At the same time, the game offers substantial content for single-player fans. In the Campaigns tab, there are:
- Three story campaigns: Tales about people and their path through the war.
The Soviet campaign is based on real memoirs and shows the front through the eyes of those who went through its horrors.
The American campaign is about people who, despite differences, find the strength to unite for a common goal.
The German campaign is about heroes who continue to fight for those who remain close when everything around is collapsing. - Two historical operations: The Bagration and Overlord campaigns with progressive arsenal development. At the beginning, only basic regiments with minimal customization are available, but with each mission, new units and upgrades open up. By the finale, the player forms their own order of battle and can complete the same missions differently by combining the available forces.
- Conquest: A strategic campaign on a global map where the player plans offensives, captures key points, and manages reserves, influencing the scenarios of future battles.
- Raid: A campaign with rogue-like elements focused on replayability and variability.
All campaigns are available both for solo play and in co-op for up to five players, which adds variability to tactical decisions and enhances team interaction.
