At early stages of development, the game was known as Soldiers: Arena.
A mix of classic Men of War, online trends for modern multiplayer games, and the developers’ desire to give players a highly varied experience.

The Men of War series received multiplayer development

Men of War II: Arena is about tactics. About team play and the interaction of different branches of the military. It is a blend of strategy, tactics, and action in a World War II setting. A game for those who feel strategy lacks action and tactical shooters lack scale.

Have you ever felt like a commander who not only gives orders but can at any moment jump into a tank and blow enemy fortifications to pieces?
That’s exactly what Men of War II: Arena is about!

Want a PvP slaughterfest with friends?
Or cooperative capture of an enemy city?
Or do you prefer a slow but strategically balanced defense of positions?
Here, everyone will find a way to show what their virtual battalion is capable of!

This is a team-role tactical strategy in a World War II setting, where each player chooses a commander and controls forces roughly on the scale of a battalion. The essence of the game is that each commander has their own specialization. Some are stronger in anti-tank defense, some turn the battlefield into a fortress thanks to engineering skills, and others love leading tanks into attack. At the same time, the game maintains a balance between authenticity of combat and the dynamics of action: vehicles are tuned according to real specifications, the environment crumbles into smoke and dust, but the game avoids overwhelming players with complex wargame mechanics.

Hybrid control system
Classic tactical unit control with automatic group creation and the option of Direct Control for any unit. The Direct Control mode allows you to play from a third-person (or first-person) view as nearly any unit in the army using WASD, choosing the trajectory of a shell or grenade more precisely and determining exactly which part of an enemy tank you want to hit.
Role system within teams
The choice of commander significantly affects the gameplay. Each commander has their own specialization: one is focused on fast point capturing, another on artillery support from the rear. Each commander represents a distinctive combat style instead of a conditional +5 to combat characteristics.
Realism & Extensive roster of authentic WWII combat units
In total, around 200 units across three in-game factions, created according to the real technical specifications of World War II combat vehicles. When creating commanders and configuring units, the developers based their work on the units’ actual roles in combat, as well as their strengths and weaknesses. Tanks require infantry support, infantry needs artillery preparation before an assault, and artillery requires protection of its positions.
Component damage system
Each vehicle consists of a set of components that can be damaged or destroyed. When calculating penetration and damage, the type of ammunition, gun characteristics, firing distance, armor slope angle, armor plate thickness, and its fatigue threshold are all taken into account. The chances of ammunition detonation, engine ignition, and damage to a wheel or track—resulting in immobilization of the vehicle—are also calculated.
A new take on PvP and PvE
The game focuses on team battles and competitive multiplayer, but it also features cooperative missions and a mode against bots. The developers ensured that the player would find any format engaging.
A game shaped by the community’s wishes
Taking part in Early Access allowed players not only to play earlier than others but also to share ideas with the developers. Many gameplay features were added to the game thanks to community feedback.
A game powered by the Gem RTS engine
GEM RTS is an improved version of the GEM2 engine, which has been through fire, water, and endless bug reports since the days of Men of War.
Flexible distribution model
A premium Early Access version with the ability to influence the game’s development. Upon release, a transition to F2P with free access to the game but with in-game purchases.
